FWIW (not much most likely), I installed Finale 2007 and gave it a go today.
It's interesting going from 2005 to 2007 on the Mac. Some things are
much slower (scrolling up the list of custom smart shapes - grrrr), but
other things (e.g. selection tool) seem more responsive, thank goodness.
There are some small touches which are much appreciated: e.g. we can
finally resize the handles on the Mac, which makes life easier on big
screens. Also finally being able to put the instrument name
automatically in the part will help just that little bit more.
Are the new resizing-icon-when-mouseover behaviours of the tool palettes
a new behaviour in Finale 2007? I find it distracting somehow.
I wish they had fixed more annoyances:
* The Text Expression and Articulation boxes are still non-resizable,
and ridiculously small for modern screen real estate;
* The new placement of the Enharmonic spelling within Preferences is
further away from the action, as is the Measurement Units now in the
View menu;
* I find the Apple-shift-option-H kbd shortcut for Show/Hide doesn't
work most of the time;
* There is no keyboard shortcut for "Edit Score"?
* Is it possible to have a staff style display in the part but not in
the score?
Altogether so far, it seems like a worthwhile upgrade in many respects.
Just my 2c
Matthew
