Sorry, I was going on a memory of something earlier in the beta.
Yes, one way or another, you do have to generate
linked parts before extracting. BUT in general
the problems with linked parts that have been
discussed relate to the way things are linked
between parts and score, and if your goal is to
extract to separate files, this won't matter to
you at all. In other words, you don't actually
have to *work* with linked parts if you don't
want to. The step of generating the linked parts
before extracting is very analogous to what
Finale used to do in reading the part's data before writing the part.
