As long as I can remember, really good violins and cellos have been priced on a par with houses, violas and basses with cars. Just in case anyone is thinking about dabbling in unfamiliar instrumental territory ;)

Another reason I'm very happy to be a brass player. You can get a decent trumpet or trombone for less than you'd spend on a good bow.
