You may have to update the multi measure rests. There is an automatic
option for this in the mm rest options, however, as I recently found
out the hard way, it is rather inconvenient, if one ever changes any
parameter of a mm rest, as I do sometimes. I now think it is best to
leave this option off, and instead select the rest or all of the part
and select "Create MM rests" with the measure tool.
Just for the record, on a new file where I had the same problem, it
was indeed solved by creating MM rests (also by recreating the part
completely). I still find this behavior rather odd. How is one
supposed to guess this?

As an outside observer who doesn't have Finale 2007, aren't all these problems caused by premature creation of the linked parts? With part extraction, you'd never do it before the score was finished and expect the result to be usable in your final parts, so why would you expect the same with linked parts?

It would seem that waiting before creating the parts might mitigate a lot of these issues, the feature isn't touted as that sort of thing.

The feature is supposed to be completely independent of when it is used. Edits of any kind in the score are supposed to reflect in the parts, and edits in the parts are supposed to reflect in the score. That is for things which remain linked and aren't unlinked by the user.

One nice aspect of this is the instance where one might have parts but no score -- it's easier simply to create each part in Finale. With linked score/parts, this would require setting up a blank score with the requisite number of parts, then create the parts and start entering each paper part into each onscreen part. Far easier and less distracting working with single parts this way, and all the edits in the parts should reflect in the score, so when one is finished entering each part separately, the score should be completed with a minimum of additional editing. One would hope. But this would require the creation of parts before entering the music.

You're correct that one wouldn't extract the parts until the score were complete (except for rare instances where one might like to see how the parts are turning out), but this whole linked score/parts is supposed to be so much more than simply extracted-parts-included-in-the-same-file, and waiting before creating the parts takes away some of the benefits of the whole feature.

I think it's all part of the fact that this is version 1.0 of linked score/parts and there are definitely issues remaining to be worked out.
