In the 18th c., all businesses were family businesses, and everyone in the family contributed. It is a virtual certainty that Telemann had his wife and kids doing a lot of the scutwork. They may actually have done all the actual engraving! There are plenty of examples of engravers who died, whereupon the wife took over the business without a break.

Telemann probably learned the necessary skills during his youth, by watching and imitating.
