There's nothing stopping you from doing that on a Mac. (Except,
obviously, when the memory or video card spec changes, but that's an
issue when changing motherboards as well.)
Look,
in life anyone can fall on harder times so he has to seek ways for
meeting his needs as economically as possible. I am going through such
times and this is why I have to do everything with thin pockets.
This is why I upgraded the processor and components on my old Mac so
many times.
