I completely agree with you.  A lot of this discussion reflects what I see
with print & web designers. When freelance graphic designers do work,
**typically** clients get the Photoshop and Illustrator files (with all the
layers) so the project can be updated later, if need be. I have a friend who
has spent a fortune on an E-Commerce store; and the designer is gouging him
outrageous fees for the slightest updates; and will not release the source
files.
