The system I have is a laptop--an MPC T2300. The key element is the 2gB of RAM.
I'd say my processor (Centrino @ 2 gHz) is in the bottom third of the user
group.

Some of the demos start with a MIDI file and are then passed to a sequencer/DAW, or
are conceived & executed totally in the sequencer/DAW. That helps.

The two wind ensemble things I linked to were done entirely in notation--in
Overture 4, whose ability to manipulate MIDI data is light years ahead of
Finale's MIDI tool. I did not dump them to a sequencer.

Finale's HP has been designed to be very GPO-friendly, but to me HP is a black
box...one that works pretty well, but a black box nonetheless...With Overture,
I can control anything I want either in a separate pianoroll/controller view or
directly on-score.

A lot of the demos have some processing (separate reverbs for orch. sections,
EQ, etc.) done in a sequencer or DAW...that will eat CPU cycles!

If you are accustomed to other sound libraries, GPO will represent a bit of a
paradigm shift, but a logical one. I enjoy the Garritan libraries immensely,
and the user community is first-class.

Could you fathom a guess then what type of computer set-ups are being
used to generate the full symphonic demos I have heard on Garritan's
webpage? My hunch is that the people that are creating these files
have some really big systems & I guess I can toss the notion that my
laptop is going to recreate the Ancient Academy of Music or St Martin
in the Fields ;)

Thanks much!
