Hi Bob,
I'd write what I wanted the drummer to play without indicating that
there is a contrasting (conflicting) rhythm in the bass part. If the
saxophones have quarter note triplets, and the trombones have quarter
notes, we don't feel any need to cue that in the parts.
My music is full of such differing subdivisions, and my players have
learned to expect them.
