Word does surprisingly well with embedded graphics.

As I've already explained, you have to have a higher color depth so 
that when resizing, the edges can be anti-aliased. As long as it 
remains 2-bit (i.e., just black and white), you'll have jagged edges, 
because there are no intermediate colors in the color palette.
