The other kind of annoying thing is that the installer creates an app
called "Finale 2007" instead of "Finale 2007b," breaking a longtime
Finale convention. What happens if you upgrade directly from Fin2007
(not Fin2007a)? Does it replace the old version?
I would actually be in favor of NOT appending "a", "b", etc to the
filename, provided this was done consistently, and that the Finale
maintenance updates would actually UPDATE the app instead of creating
a duplicate. I know some people on the list don't like that idea, but
since that's how every other piece of software on the market behaves,
I don't have a lot of sympathy for that view.
If someone *really* wants to preserve their copy of Fin2007a before
upgrading to Fin2007b, that's easily done. But it's always confusing
and annoying for Mac users to have to replace the Finale 2007 icon in
their Dock or launcher with the more recent version, and update their
QuicKeys/iKey sets to recognize the new app name, etc, every time a
maintenance update is released. I don't know of any other software
company that issues a maintenance update that leaves the original,
non-updated app in place.
