why not a whole note instead of two half notes? the percussionist
might actually ask this and assume you want the 3rd beat slightly
emphasized...
It's baroque music, the editor prefers not tampering too much with the
existing notation habits. A period baroque timpani player would
understand this notation (I assume). I'm just unclear how far to
extend the line.
