MP3 is not a excellent sound product and even the smallest is too big file wise. Why they are so popular? Because they are the most convenient. Downloading DVD's is in the not too distant future. Musically-- that's mega quality. Who will care about an mp3 file then?

yes but according to the nature of your project / website / company you have to nonetheless make a decision about the sound format and quality in regards to your past, existing and projected "target audience" as the term goes today. of course you could post aiff files and nothing else but your user base would then be severely restricted; in 5 years perhaps only moderately restricted; in 10, only somewhat restricted.

the idea that (for example) in 3-5 yrs everyone on the planet is going to have some sort of mega-broadband is - despite massive and rapid technological changes in recent years - nothing more than euro/americo/japanico-centric arrogance and fairly completely ignores the real situation outside these regions, not to mention some areas within these regions.
