I guess my 3-dimensional perception just hasn't kicked in yet this morning, but I can't picture where the tape goes in a booklet, or why you would use it. I too favor booklets unless I have a part with absolutely NO possible page turns and I have to find another solution, but after fitting the pages together I simply staple them on the fold, as you do.
you can't print 12.5x19 without going to offset printing. i find the extra 1/2 inch H/W (larger than 9x12) offers me an excellent proportion between a more or less standard size and flexibility for layout. remember i do almost exclusively new music, and the layout concerns, because of the different nature of a number of aspects of the notational demands, make excellence in layout sometime a particular problem in smaller formats.
