I have learned much from the thread concerning binding. I now pose an even more basic question: What printers are recommended for your oversized pages? I would like to purchase one capable of printing larger that 8.5" x 14". Thoughts?

I use a Hewlitt-Packard 5100 laser printer that I bought used on eBay. It has capacity of up to 12.28 X 18.5 inches and is fast and tough. They are going used for about $600 for the basic model, but I suggest getting the networking card if you have more than one computer or printer. You might want an extra paper tray, too, depending on what you want to do with it.

There are only two disappointments. I bought a duplexer for automatic double-sided printing, but it won't work with the thickness of paper I like, so I have to feed it through the straight paper path on the side of the printer twice (once each side).

The other is that there seems to be a bug with 2-up printing. I have tried to make choral booklets on ordinary-weight paper with the duplexer, but it will always move the very last page onto a new sheet of paper. I don't know if this is a printer problem or a Finale problem (or an OS problem), but it keeps me from doing efficiently what I bought the printer for, in part.
