Aaron,
Try it for yourself (FinMac2007). If I create a group containing all
staves and then optimize out the non-playing staves, this "All
Staves" group does not show up (I think because the bass staff is one
of those that gets optimized out). If I create the group *after*
optimization, selecting "mensurstriche" has no effect. If I select
"mensurstriche" before optimization, barlines do draw between staves
but other group barlines still get drawn as well.
I'm not actually persuaded that the composer's choice to use
mensurstriche is even all that well-advised here, so I may just try
to persuade him to use regular barlines, but it *would* be nice to
know whether this can actually be done in Finale. So far, I've had no
luck.
Cheers,
- Darcy

I'm not sure I understand what the difficulty is. Mensurstriche can
only be applied to a group; once you've optimized, changes made to
a group in one system affect only that system. So I would create a
group that includes all the staves, optimize, and then apply
mensurstriche to that group for the systems you want. Of course,
the section has to start at the beginning of a system and end at
the end of a system -- but I'm guessing that would be true for a
movement.
Or am I missing something in your question?
Aaron.
