I have posted multiple emails to several people at MakeMusic (including
Director of Quality Assurance) and to the tech support pages with multiple
reports, etc. They are soon going to hate me over there. But, the upside
(I think) is that the Dir. of Quality Assurance has responded to my
request to become a Beta Tester and is going to induct me this Spring.
This could be dangerous for all, but I'll definately be in the loop when
it comes to the next revision. And I will do my utmost to convince them it
does not help for them to release new features when some of the old ones
still are funky.

The problem is that with corporations such as MakeMusic, it's the marketing department which wields the clout, not the product development or the beta-testers or the tech-support departments.

I do not for a moment think that any of the developers at MakeMusic enjoy releasing buggy software. Nor do they enjoy having deficient aspects of the program remain unrepaired version after version after version. These developers are professionals and they have done a terrific job with the program and all of the add-ons which have been forced on them by the marketing department, and they have professional pride in the products they release.

However, they are simply employees, and are forced to do what they are told to do, and when the Manager of Product Development tells them not to waste any more time on the hyphen issue since it affects such a small percentage of Finale usage, and put more time into Thoughtnotator(tm) or whatever new gimmick the marketing department has thought up to generate more new sales, they have to do as they are told.

So I wish you good luck with your beta testing, but don't expect that just because you report a bug it will be taken care of.

MakeMusic is well aware of what works and what doesn't work. The problem is that those who can control what gets worked on don't care about what we care about and those who can actually fix the problems aren't allowed to.

When the bean-counters say "it's time to stop work on Finale200x now and send it to the disk copiers so we can get this version out the door by August 10th" that's what happens, regardless of how ready for prime-time the developers feel the product is.

Unfortunately you'll have to sign a non-disclosure pact so you won't be able to tell us of your frustrations and what you tried to accomplish but were unable to do. But do fight the good fight, and hopefully we'll see some results!
