Ultimately she found a song (from her home country Macedonia I believe)
in which she thought the two aspects were combined. The accompaniment
was open, to her taste, and the voice was closed. It is here:

Thanks to everyone who tried to help us out with so many different
suggestions! I've forwarded all of them to her and I think she'll try to
find the pieces and listen to them. Her next project will be to create
an open-and-closed piece of music by herself (together with some class
mates), hopefully inspired by your contributions.
