Hey Carl,

The original paper feed and registration clutches just wore out. Perhaps it was all the thick paper I use for parts, or perhaps they were just shoddy parts to begin with. Derek the Ricoh tech did observe that the design of the registration clutch was unlike that of other units he'd worked on, and seemed to "float" instead of being locked down. This is apparently by design -- it's supposed to float -- but I guess it makes the registration clutch vulnerable to getting pushed out of alignment, especially when using heavy paper.

Cheers,

- Darcy

For those who have been following the sordid tale of my printer woes with bated breath, I am happy to report that the new registration and paper feed clutches -- installed today by Derek the Ricoh tech -- appear to have solved the problem. (Knock on wood... ) Of course, the final bill for fixing this issue is almost $100 more than I paid for the printer and duplexer in the first place, but at least I'm back in business again. For now. I hope.

Egad, but that's a lot. Did he at least say what had caused the problem?
