Seems to me "armonica" without the modifier may work on paper but not
when heard.

Seems to me if you want to call it the armonica, then you don't need
the modifier "glass" as there is no other instrument called by that
name (in English, anyway)--and Franklin himself just called it
"armonica" without the modifier.
