I think it's very odd that you'd to that. Why not just "Bassi" for
the bass line?
I've seen the Barenreiter Telemann editions, they do this for the
basso continuo. That's why I asked. I assumed if they do it, it's
canonical. I suppose they can squeeze more names beside the basso
stave because they have a lot bigger sheet of paper than me ;)
In Graupner's Ouvetures for Viola d'amore, I'm finding quite a few
bassoon solos in the bass line marked as 'fag.' I offered to create a
separate stave for the bassoon, but my editor didn't because it gave
the bassoon undue prominence.
