huh? if you are using an existing font character (although i don't know what the "Maestro K" font is), why not use special tools: note shape tool?
you can adjust the stem connections in relation to the different noteheads in the doc options: stems: stem connections.
i get the feeling that there might be an easier way to do what you are trying to do, george, can you post an example online somewhere of what you want?
