As ever, I feel that David B has got it right.

My feeling is that if a world class guitarist, classical or otherwise, were
to play in the same venue they would attract greater interest than Joshua B.
This will, I'm sure irk many people, but- I'll bet there are many more
people who know who John Williams (Gtr!) Segovia and Tommy Emmanuel are than
know of Josh Bell.
BTW I'm not a guitarist! Brass is my scene.

To me, when I visited in Spain, the difference was amplification.  That 
made it unwelcome.  I like good acoustic music outdoors in most 
situations, but the over-amped music from the other end of a plaza was 
annoying.
