Sorry to disagree, but they are greyed out for no apparent reason. If you go to edit the Lyrics (using the Edit Lyrics window) you can easily change font and size even for part of a syllable. I have just had to do this for the little slur symbol to link to syllables together. The character is in the Engraver Font collection, but I had to go back to the edit lyrics window to actually change the character to the correct font, very unnecessary.
