It amazes me when people haven't learned that lesson and it scares the hell out of me when such people get elected or appointed to government positions!

Unfortunately, "i'm sorry" is not a slogan that will get anyone elected in today's political environment. Personally, I would settle for evidence that a politician is capable of learning from his mistakes, even if he isn't allowed to acknowledge them explicitly.
