phil, such a reactionary comment makes me seriously doubt that you have any of the tools necessary to even comprehend, let alone judge, what constitutes modern art (and by extension music).

there is however much reductionist and simplistic music written today which (cor)responds only to the like / don't like categories hidden under the surface of your seething comments, and although there may be much to question about cage's work, its identity and position in music and art history is certainly not as reductionist as your comments. why waste even a single breath on cage, since he is clearly "totally useless" to your understanding of contemporary art practices?

I would compare it to those artists who throw paint against canvas.

i would compare such enlightened comments to the redneck response to abstract visual art with ambiguous or non-existent object relations: "my 4-year old daughter could do better".

ie. totally useless.
