I have posted in forums about the problem of Finale's transcribing
imported midi files--ie. with Finale generating many repeated
notes/chords, NOT in the original mdi file.
The durations of the original notes/chords are split , in different
ways, between their original occurrence , and Finale's repeating it.
This makes for extremely limited uses in midi transcription, esp Piano
files, with sustained chords, and melodies played over them, or the
same thing can be sen if you use the Piano Reduction or Impload music
features, on large scores with many voices.
So you'll have repeated notes, and chords all over the place.
Thru the kindness of Scott H, and Notation Specialist Ryan W., at
Makemusic, the problem was found to be the entrance of a 2nd or 3rd
(etc) voice --a separate voice being determined by the start and/or
stop time of a note being different from other notes being played
simultaneously. The problem was first thought solved by using, in
Quantization Settings, Under "More Settings", the checkmarking of
"Include Voice 2".
Unfortunately, it only worked in limited instances, (when it was only
split into a total of 2 independent voices per staff layer), and there
is no feature to include 3, or more independent voices in the same
staff.--
So what is now happening is that the sustained first voice is being
resounded when the third voice enters, as again, Finale can only split
into a total of 2 independent voices per staff layer.(using the
aforementioned"include voice two")
Hence the need for this feature request-- " to have the ability to
transcribe 3 or MORE voices added to Finale".
Again, Ryan W. (who ALSO wants this feature added, and who has kindly
supplied this info thru my online case)) has told me, that to make
the feature request vote official, people would need to submit it by
opening a case online or call.
As almost ALL piano midi files brought to Finale for transcription, to
produce a final score, will only be on one track , and with this
limitation of only two separate voices being able to be heard from a
simultaneity, and with all the resulting repeated notes/chords Finale
generates, it greatly reduces - just about cripples-Finales ability
to properly transcribe these files.
And simply deleting these generated rpeats doesn't solve the problem,
as not only is it much extra work, but the durations will not be
correct.
PLEASE open a case online, or call Make Music--here is FINALLY
(Finale?LOL) a chance to address a BIG PART of the shortcomings in
MIDI that I've seen many complain about, myself included.
ALL thats needed to do is submit a case that
very simply requests a certain feature.
In this case simply write:
"I would like to see the ability to transcribe MIDI files that contain
3 or more independent voices per staff supported in Finale".
Thanks.
Peace, Bronx
PS--I apologize if you've seen this post elsewhere--thanks:)
