Hi all,
I'm not sure if this has been documented. Copy/paste doesn't seem
to work
reliably with independent time signatures in use.
If I copy a section (either copy or copy to clip file) whose time
signatures are independent and then attempt to paste or insert that
copy
elsewhere (even with the same time signatures in the destination),
only
some material will paste. (All items are set to copy in the options.)
The parts that will copy vary in a way that I can't follow. For
example,
part one is in 4/4; parts two to four are in 5/4, part five in 7/4.
If I
copy measure 1 part #1 and paste it elsewhere, the result is blank
(sometimes a smart shape or time signature does get copied). If I copy
measure 1 part #2, same thing. If I copy parts #3 or #4, it works.
Part #5,
no results. Different measures in different parts work or don't; I
can't
see a consistency.
Drag-and-drop copying works. I can use drag-and-drop copying until the
score is off-screen, but since 10% is the smallest reduction
allowed, even
though I have 44 inches of horizontal screen space available, it's not
enough. I'm forced to re-enter the material by hand.
Clues? Solutions?
Drag and drop has always worked slightly differently from copy-paste.
But you can imitate drag and drop by selecting the passage, then
scroll to the target measure and opt-click (on Mac that is. On PC it
might be alt-click) on the first measure at the top of the passage
you want to copy to. This is supposed to work exactly like drag and
drop, and always has for me. If you hold down the shift key as well
then you go through the "Items To Copy" dialogue box first. Simply
opt-clicking bypasses the dialogue box, and uses the last settings
you made.
You could also open another window of the same document (under
Window>New Window) and drag and drop between the two windows.
There are still a couple of things that don't copy as advertised.
Barline settings (if checked) don't copy the state of the click
boxes, for example. So if you had a bunch of double barlines breaking
multimeasure rests that you wanted to copy, only the barlines
themselves would copy, and not the break multimeasure rest part. You
still have to go in and check that box manually in the copied measures.
You might discover that copy-paste (or drag-drop) also work funny
when independent key signature is selected. You never know exactly
what pitches are going to show up in the copied passage.
