Jim's solution is one way of doing this. Here's another way.
Enter your 44 measures of cadenza as you normally would. Then make
the barlines invisible.
In the measure number box, edit your measure numbers to end at bar
285, then create a new section which would start the bar after the
candenza with the numbering starting at 286.
When you extract the part, you will need to edit the multimeasure
rest so that the normal long multimeasure rest is replaced with a
whole note rest, and you will need to adjust the number by making the
"Start Numbering at:" larger then the number of bars in your section.
These last two settings is found under : with the Measure Tool -->
MEASURE --> Multimeasure Rest --> Edit... -->
(for the whole rest) Change the shape for a whole note rest (put a
"0" in the box next to Select button, then press select and you'll
find yourself in the shape designer box where you can create your new
form)
(for the number) Change Opions---> Start Numbering at: (put in any
number over 45)
VoilĂ !
This last section will need to be repeated in each individual part,
but once you have created your whole note rest the first time, it
will have a number assigned to it, so you just need to enter that
number in the "shape" field, and the number in the "Start Numbering
at:" field.

I'm engraving a piece of mine, solo horn & orch. My problem/
challenge is a cadenza for the soloist. If I could, I would
include a measured cadenza (about 44 mm.) in the score and solo
part. The orch. parts would have simply a closing cue and fermata
over a rest, the one rest in which the other 44 mm. would occur (m.
285 of the score). The cadenza would have no measure numbers, and
the numbering in the score/parts would count the cadenza measure as
one measure (m. 285). Can all this be done in Finale? Thanks in
advance!
