I am wondering whether it will be worth for me investing into the 2k8 update. I am on 2k7.

I certainly have no use for the audio functions, nor more Garritan instruments.

I may have use for Document styles, and the new selection, cut/copy/ paste etc improvements may well be useful.

But how usable is 2k8? Are the improvements worth the money?

On July 6 I made a large post enumerating the bugs I had found so far. There were not many fixes from 2007 that I noticed, and a few added.

The big problems I have that are new with 2008 mostly include file corruption, which seems to hit way more frequently than before. Maybe I just have bad luck, but when I use a pre-2008 document for a Document Style, the resulting file almost always has some sort of corruption. The type of corruption seems to vary, but I often end up having to copy the contents to a fresh document to continue working.

The enharmonic-flip bug in Speedy is still there, and this is a monster for my work. Most of the other bugs are just annoyances, albeit hair-pulling annoyances at times, like lyric hyphens and Postscript not accepting custom arrowheads. But these are not new to 2008.

I have reverted to 2007 for most of my work, and 2006 in some cases (no enharmonic bug in 2006!)

Bottom line, 2008 is not worth it. Give it a pass.
