I'm thinking about it. I've thought Sib was for juniors, all these
years - used Finale for major projects since Fin97.
When I get the emotional energy, I'll give one more try to going through
all the friggin help files. If that doesn't work, I'll call in to help,
if that doesn't help, then I'll switch.

Haven't received an Finale messages today, so wondered if I'd been

OK:
I'm totally disheartened on Finale, After being oh, so productive
for the last few years on WinFinale (several versions through 2006)
with full GPO and GJBB (using GP Studio which I gather I wasn't
supposed to be using anymore), I "upgraded" to Finale 2008 and NI2,
and now nothing plays back at all. It even screwed up my old
2006/GPO setup so it won't work.
Hmmm.... There seems to be a few of us with this trouble. Why is
there no solution?
Perplexed and frustrated...
I've found my solution -- jumped over to Sibelius 5. I've completed
my second large project in it with no problems, no hassles, no
convoluted workarounds. Not totally transparent process but far far
less problematic than Finale these days.
It's actually fun to work in Sibelius!
Unless the major selling point for Finale2008 is "We've finally gotten
the bugs out -- Finale2008 is Finale Done Right!" I'm done with Finale
and its annual subscription model, with each new version becoming more
and more problematic.
And all the GPO libraries work with Sibelius, if you have any, so it
isn't like a total flushing of all your investment if you change.
The tech support that is provided on the Sibelius list is top-rate,
and they are constantly working to take care of user complaints. I've
never heard of any complaints on that list that when they contacted
Sibelius tech-support the first response was "we can't reproduce that
problem here" (my most frequently received first response from Finale
tech-support) and nobody has complained that the tech-support at
Sibelius seemed designed to get them to stop complaining more than
designed to actually help them solve the problem. And with their past
proven track record, when they say "we're aware of the problem and
we're hoping to get a solution out soon" they really mean it.
It's not totally bug-free software (no software ever is) but the bugs
which may be present in Sibelius are not showing their ugly heads in
my work.
Just join the Sibelius group at yahoogroups.com and read the messages
to get a feeling for what problems and frustrations there are with the
software -- it is amazing the difference in attitudes and complaints
between the Sibelius group and the Finale group.
Sibelius5 has gotten all the frustrations out of the program that I
had experienced in versions 2, 3 and 4, so that it is now a breeze to
use.
It certainly isn't for everybody, but with all the frustrations we're
experiencing with Finale2008 it's certainly worth a look. It has
solved all my Finale problems for me! ;-)
