Hey Johannes,
For my printer, I just save a 1200 dpi preset in the Print dialog.
(Set up the settings you want in the Print dialog, then from the
presets menu choose "Save As."
OS X defaults to your most recently used preset, so if you always
print at 1200 dpi, you'll only need to select this once after you
save it.

I have done that, but it still defaults to 600dpi in the printer
driver. Is there a way to change that?
