Crash-on-quit with 10.5 is fixed in Fin2008a.
My current biggest problem with Fin2008a and Leopard is that I find
that many dialog boxes do not disappear on clicking OK unless I switch
to a different app and switch back. Logging out and back in fixes the
issue temporarily.
Is anyone else seeing this? I wonder if it's Spaces-related. I have
tried disabling Spaces, but the ctrl-arrow shortcuts still work. I'm
finding that Spaces is really, really buggy -- far buggier than any
other OS feature Apple has put out in a long time.

In this case, the upgrade to 2008a is an improvement. You would
still get crashes, but you get those now. A lot of other bugs are
fixed rather than staying the same or worse than 2007.
My unfortunate discovery of the Human Playback problem (i.e., it
only works with All Staves rather than using Staff Sets) happened to
be the first thing I tried, so it irked me greatly that no one
noticed it before releasing the software. It took 3 days to get a
partial solution to that one.
The fix for the enharmonic flipping bug and the various hyphen fixes
makes this a worthwhile update. If MakeMusic responds quickly to the
new HP playback problem and perhaps even the crash-on-quit issue,
then I'd say we are really getting somewhere.
About your crashing during HP, have you tried erasing all HP data
using the HP playback plugin? You might have to run it 3 or 4 times
before it gets everything. As I noted in another email, HP data
sometimes (maybe even rarely) get saved with the file (in 2007) even
if you hadn't run the HP plugin.
Another thing to try is to remove your Finale 2007 Preferences and
build them again from scratch. Once you've got the preference file
back to where you want it, save that file in case you have to
replace a corrupt preference file in the future.
The install software for Finale 2008 AND 2008a say that you can
reuse an old preference file by renaming it (and then changing the
settings that are relevant). I think this shortcut has been shown to
introduce bugs in the past. I can't believe they still offer it up
as a suggestion.
