Hi all: I'm just curious if anyone on the list is familiar with Cambini? He was a Italian transplant that worked in Paris, and apparently was accused by Mozart of having a performance of a sinfonia concertante squashed, because Cambini's was written for the same soloists as Mozart's, and feared his music would look meager next to Mozart's.
I've heard a recording of Cambini's music-- it was another sinfonia concertante (one of dozen's that survive). It could have been the performance, but the music was boring beyond tears. The chamber music seems a bit more important though and Grove's has suggested Cambini's music was vitally important for the string quartet in France.
