I'm not a lawyer either, but it seems to me that churches can be (and probably should be) registered as non-profits, although that is a legal status under both state laws and IRS rulings. (And I have to admit that it's hard to see some of the billion-dollar mega-churches as non-profits!!) But publishers of hymnals are not churches, and can be for-profit businesses. No conflict that I can see.
