Robert Patterson beat me to it. 8-)
Yes, I had this problem (though Acrobat showed and printed the files
correctly, but not Preview) and it was solved with Robert's solution.

Hi all,
When I create PDFs of a score, some characters are showing up
differently when I open the PDF.
I'm on FinMac 2008b, Mac OS 10.5.4
I'm using Maestro as my default music font. Specifically, up bows
are converting to caesuras (railroad tracks), down bows are
converting to single-slash "tremolos," and whole rests are becoming
a slanted character that I haven't identified yet. These are only
the problems I easily found--I haven't looked for any more....
I initially thought it was a problem with viewing the PDF in
Preview, but Adobe Acrobat gave me the same problems.
I changed the font of the up bow and down bow to Maestro Wide, and
that solved the problem when viewing in Acrobat, but not in
Preview. Preview and Adobe didn't like it any better when I changed
to EngraverFontSet, either.
I don't know how to change the character of the whole rest, but I
could try that if anyone can give me directions on how to do that.
I'm hesitant to change the default music font because of all the
spacing I've adjusted around the lyrics.
I'll be calling Finale Tech support in the morning once they open
for business.
Has anyone run across this type of issue before? Any ideas of how
to fix it? Is it a font problem, a character problem (other
articulations in the default font show up correctly), is it a
Finale problem, a system problem? This affects numerous files, so
hopefully an efficient solution is available.
Thanks for your wisdom!
Ryan
