Well, I'll be...

There it is, almost completely fixed.

But there are a few small problems

1) No instructions. When the dialogue box comes up with the missing font in italics, there should be an instruction to choose the font I want to replace the missing one. I got it the second time, though. I found mighty thin explanations in the documentation, nothing to say what action you should take to get a result.

2) The Apply button and the OK button appear to do the same thing. Why is that function duplicated? No, wait a minute, the latter dismisses the dialogue box afterward, while the former doesn't. Okay, that took a few tries.

2) The first font it found (Chicago), I didn't know what to do, so I pressed OK. It went on to the next unfound font, so I selected a font to replace it, which it did no problem. Then when I ran the utility again, expecting Chicago to come up, it didn't! Finale did not realize that I hadn't replaced the Chicago font (if I had pressed Cancel, it would remember the missing font). Then when I tried to replace it manually, Chicago would not appear in the list of fonts to search for.

Just thought you might like to know.

But even a fussy tool that can mess up your file if you don't use it properly is vastly superior to no tool at all, so thanks!

And I don't know if other people have this problem, but on my Mac I haven't been able to use Check Document Fonts Against System Fonts for several versions now, and across three different computers. It finishes its process with no message, even though I KNOW there are some fonts in the document that don't exist on my system.
