Vn 1 and Vn 2 do not diverge, i.e. they're the same. This movement consists
of 2 Passepieds, in Passepied no 1, the strings are normal, meaning they are
normal clefs. Passepied no 2, has the same style system though, but with the
bass clefs in the first system, and as a I pointed out earlier, the 2nd
system of the movement has the treble clefs cancelled and bass clefs
subsituted.

In an earlier movment, "Air l'Italien", the first half is for recorder and
strings. The 2nd half just for recorder and basso continuo with only 2
staves with each part marked. If Passpied no 2 was really just the bass
written in the 2 violin parts, why use 2 staves? Why not just follow the
same method that was used in the "Air l'Italian"?
Someone else suggested that in Passepied no 2, Violin 1 and 2 are written in
bass clef, but meant to be played an octave higher than written, which makes
sense because they play the same notes. This may be a viable explanation,
but I still wonder: wouldn't have been just easier to write the notes in
treble clef, at the pitch that was meant?

Thanks
Kim
