But in recent versions of Finale there are expressions (under
Miscellaneous) that are barlines that position themselves vertically
automatically, so you don't have to use Smart Lines. Once you
have done
one "cell" as they call it, you can copy the barlines to the other
measures, so it isn't as painful as all that.
While I don't want to dispute your comments about improvements in
Finale expressions, I've done some polymetric scores in Finale and
had no difficulty placing barlines as expressions. The hard part was
sizing them vertically to fit a single staff. Once that's done, a
staff list takes care of placing it vertically.
Oops, I said "staff list."
Heh, heh! Chalk another one up for the old staff lists! Believe me,
not all the changes are improvements!
Of course I only meant to say that they INCLUDE a barline expression
now, so you don't have to make one up.
It occurs to me now (I forgot to mention it before) that to copy the
barline expressions to other measures, you have to do so BEFORE
entering any other expressions. I have been caught by this several
times in the new expressions now that I can't depend on staff lists
any more. Chalk another one up... oh never mind!
