Hello Finale Listers
I am a long term Finale user and am now using Finale 2009. I also use
ProTools software with a Digi002 rack. All of this on PC. Finale 2009 is
supposed to support ASIO drivers but to get any sound I still have to
use the DirectSound output even though the Digi002 driver appears in the
Audio settings as a choice. MakeMusic Customer Support has not been able
to help. I am wondering if there is anyone else out there in Finale land
that uses this combination of equipment and software.
Now that Sibelius is part of Avid I am seriously thinking I should jump
ship even though I have years of Finale files .... although
unfortunately the cheap crossgrade that this list has mentioned does not
seem to be applying to Australian buyers.
As a person who is very happy with Sibelius, I would say
that you should not jump ship to Sibelius simply because it
is part of Avid. While there is some communication between
the divisions of Avid, you shouldn't count on there being
complete integration of products.
You should be sure to download the Sibelius demo and work
with it for a while before making the decision, and then do
so because you find it to be a good product for you
regardless of how well it integrates with your other
software and hardware.
You may find that, like many on this list who have tried
Sibelius, that it isn't good for you and you might well end
up spending that money for nothing.
But if you do jump to Sibelius, you can export your current
files from Finale into MusicXML format to import them into
Sibelius, which does a pretty good job of getting most
information translated between the two programs. You would
want to keep Finale installed and then transfer the files
one at a time as your spare time allows you the time to do
the work to make the Sibelius version of the file match the
Finale version completely.
