I wouldn't recommend the GIMP to anyone as the UI is horrid beyond 
belief. It doesn't follow the conventions of either of the OS's 
Finale runs on, and it exposes a level of complexity that is 
daunting. It may be easy to use once you've figured it out, but after 
quite a bit of trying, I just stopped using it. I could get better 
results much more easily with graphics tools that follow normal 
Windows conventions.
