I wouldn't recommend the GIMP to anyone as the UI is horrid beyond belief. It doesn't follow the conventions of either of the OS's Finale runs on, and it exposes a level of complexity that is daunting. It may be easy to use once you've figured it out, but after quite a bit of trying, I just stopped using it. I could get better results much more easily with graphics tools that follow normal Windows conventions. -- David W.
