Just so I understand this correctly: If I move or re-configure the
tool palette, Finale will misbehave. .
In my experience, you can move it and choose whatever style of its
display you like, you just cannot change its shape.

preference file get corrupted again? What is going on?
Not sure about this, but I don't think this behavior corrupts the
preferences, but just to make sure, when you open it again, and your
preferences are the way you like them, do make a copy (Command D) of
the Preference File. It will be called "Finale Preferences - copy"
and remain inactive until you need it, at which point you can remover
the "copy" designation, and it becomes active.
I doubt this makes much difference, but still, it is unnerving and
is certainly strange behavior for a program with as much history as
Finale. End users should never have to deal with problems like
these....and am I also to believe that MakeMusic has neglected to
fix this in more recent versions of the software?
Not sure, but 2009 is pretty stable. I'm not sure about reconfiguring
the tools though. I haven't dared to try. I just got used to the
default configuration.
Where is the quality control?
I have seen the quality control, and they is us!
