While I certainly know that it's difficult to deal with new OS
releases, I think this remark in that article is problematic:
The Aria Player used with Finale 2009c has also received an
update
which can be found here. However, due to the timeline of when
these products were designed and tested, they are not officially
supported on Snow Leopard at this time.
Now, the Aria Player is not MakeMusic's software, but the idea that
software that is but 1 or 2 years old will not be patched to run on a
new OS release is alarming a the very least. No one expects updates
to 5-year-old releases, but it's quite common to upgrade an OS or buy
a new computer with a new OS and continue using something other than
the current version of a piece of software, particular for
applications that are updated every year.
While I understand that the issues involved are often created by the
OS itself, it still seems to me that every effort should be made to
keep the last 3 versions working on a new OS.
Failure to do this would, I think, depress sales of any release of
Finale that is coming in the year or so before the expected release
of a new OS version.
