Two tactics.

First of all, the Layer Options can be set for the document to automatically shift rests by a certain number of steps up or down. You might save a lot of tweaking by setting these to something other than the default up 6 for layer 1 and down 6 for layer 2, especially if the piece is particularly low or high.

Second of all, just click and drag the rest in Speedy Entry to shift it. You have to be in the correct layer, but that is trivial. After an hour or so of this, you will be searching for default settings (see above) that allow you to avoid this.

In Speedy, hitting * while the cursor is on the rest will remove any shifting you have done, either manually or by default.
