Yes, it would be nice if dynamic and hairpin alignment were included in Finale and made automatic, as I understand it is in Siblelius, and it would be nice if both companies would address the issue of not being able to show expressions (or text repeats) attached to the last measure of a multi-measure rest without going through ungainly and time consuming kludges (for DS al Coda signs etc.). Neither company has responded to my pointing out this long time annoyance with anything more than casual interest, and Sibelius people were obnoxiously arrogant when I described the problem to them at a convention some years ago, saying that it was easy to accomplish this (to me) basic notation need in their program, but I hear from experienced Sibelius users that the same problem exists in that program in the same way. So neither company is addressing everything.

Still, I agree that dependence on 3rd party plugins is a drag. I am still waiting for Tobias to catch up with 2010 and can imagine that it is not necessarily a high priority item for him.

Jef,

Align Dynamic works fine in 2010, but some others don't (Transfer Layout - an essential timesaver for linked parts), but Tobias claims he is working on an update for this.

I hate to be the one to point this out, since I'm not actively using Finale, and we've discussed it before, although not recently, but any program that is dependent on outside third-party developers to make the basic program fully functional has GOT to be considered an incomplete program. And that seems to have been MakeMusic's and Coda's mindset for a very long tine.

Of course there are also lots of plugins for Sibelius, and some are quite useful, but for the most part they seem to be nice things to have, and not missing pieces of an incomplete program. And they're distributed through Sibelius.
