A violin quinton is a violin with the an addition string on to, and
the top two strings tuned like a viol (in fourths), i.e., G/D/A/D/G.
The viola version, or tenor quinton, would be a fifth lower,
C/G/D/G/C (the 1911 Brittanica article talks about it
(http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/1911_Encyclop%C3%A6dia_Britannica/Violi
n), but Wurlitzer-Bruck actually has a violin quinton for sale
(http://www.wurlitzerbruck.com/Search/catimg.php?InventoryNumber=INS-
00000&img=/INS/Quintone.jpg), and that's why I know about it).

I think the idea of a lower fifth string is pretty radical -- is the
instrument substantially larger than a regular viola?

Can't see it as I have only Finale 2003.
