Yeah, there is weirdness with the MIDI through function. I don't understand it, but yes, basically you have to have already opened a Speedy frame in order for the MIDI through to work, and then it DOESN'T work when you switch apps, say to Transcribe. I have OSX 10.4.11, so it is an old issue already.

Hi everyone,

I am totally new to this group so forgive me if I am repeating a problem already covered.

I transcribe early 20th century piano recordings for posterity not profit and I have used Finale for 10 years and always use a transcribing application called 'Transcribe!' listening to my idea of the sound sequences on a very based 49 note midi keyboard activated by Finale. The keyboard ALWAYS remained active when Finale was the background application and Transcribe the active application.

Recently, I became the recipient of an E-MU Xboard49 keyboard (previously unused) and I have managed to make it respond to Finale 2010 but totally unreliably. In December 2009, I also made the decision to move to a 27 inch iMac running Snow Leopard and hence the need to upgrade to Finale 2010. That is the background.

1 The keyboard will only function when Finale is 'active' making Transcribe much more difficult to use.

2 Previous set-ups always switched on the keyboard immediately the application was up and running, albeit, I have to add that I was doing so on a PC running latterly, Windows XP Professional. This does not happen in Snow Leopard.

3 Finale never functions the same way day by day whereas I have just loaded Finale 2010 onto my PC and in conjunction with my old keyboard (so far) it works exactly as I am expecting it should.

4 I have tried to get a sensible response from Make Music because this feels like a software issue but with no feedback as yet as to whether it is my set-up or a software glitch.

5 For example, as I write I have Finale sheet music playback but no E-MU sound with all settings apparently as before.

Has anyone any ideas for me to try?

Yours sincerely,

Malcolm Steele
