If things are the same as they were when I changed to 2003, you will
have to UNDO optimisation, then change the GROUP attributes (not
staff attributes!) for the piano group to Optimize Normally, then
optimise. If you try to change the group attributes AFTER you have
optimised, they will not change, even though they will have appeared
to change.
This cost me a day once six years back, so I remember it very well.

First, I'd just like to say that I've been lurking for sometime, and
learning lots. I'm very glad this forum exists, and that everyone
here is so
civil and smart.
Here's my question. I upgraded from Finale 2002 to 2010. I never
seem to
remember having any problem creating a piano score, and optimizing
in order
to remove empty staves.it was always something I took for granted.
Now,
choosing to optimize has absolutely no effect on the score, and I
can't
figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I use the setup wizard to create a piano score (create new
ensemble>keyboard>piano>add), write my masterpiece, then simply go
into
Staff System Optimization as I've always done. "Remove empty
staves", and
"Keep at least one staff" is selected , as is "All systems of current
part/score". Nothing happens. I"ve played with choices in the staff
and
group attributes windows, with no luck. As an experiment, I created
my own
grand staff, bypassing the wizard, with the same outcome. Does
anyone have
any idea what's going on?
