I am using Finale 2008 on my iMac. In 4/4 time, I have several occurences of a sixteenth note sextuplet on a single beat. Using speedy note entry, I hold down the option key and then press the number 6, and proceed to enter my 6 sixteenth notes (actually, some of these have a sixteenth note rest followed by five sixteenth notes, and some have 6 sixteenth notes).

My problem is this...sometimes there appears a broken bracket around the "6" (marking that it is a sextuplet), and sometimes the 6 appears without the broken bracket around the "6". Anyone know why this is happening? I'd prefer to have the broken bracken appear in all instances, but can't seem to figure out how to do this.

Thanks,
Martin

Finale has a tuplet option (enabled by default) that omits the bracket if the beaming makes it clear what the tuplet is. I bet that the bracket appears when you start with a 16th rest, and is NOT there when you have the beam over all 6 notes.

In Document Options>Tuplets click Always Use Shape (in this case, a broken bracket) and you will get the desired results on all NEW tuplet groupings.

To get this happening on old tuplets (you can always re-enter them but that's a pain) you select the tuplets with the Selection Tool, go to the menu Utilities>Change>Tuplets... and click the same item so it has a check mark. I hope this is all there in 2008 (it is in 2010) but I think I remember it being there. Maybe the menu is organised differently...
