Quite possible, but Win7 definitely has a newer version of WMP. I should have been more specific in saying that MP4s won't play in WMP in WinXP, which I believe still has something like a 50% share of Windows.
MS has many things on their website that are incorrect.
Yes, but in this case it agrees with my own experience just now, as well as with the several web sites I found a while ago with very detailed instructions on which codec packs to install in order to let WMP play MP4s in XP. (Then I found VLC, and I never use WMP anymore.)
